Second Promotional Programme for Jatropha Plantation at Muradgarhi Panchayat in Jewar Block of Gautam Budh-Nagar on 10thJan, 2006
Programme Objectives :
The main objective of the programme is to motivate the participants for promotion of Jatropha cultivation on the waste land under Gram Panchayat since it can create employent opportunities for the people of the Area and help the nation in production of Bio-Diesel as a substitute to petrol-diesel which is becoming dearer day by day.

The programme was attended by the following :
• Pradhans of Muradgarhi, Tanaja and Veerampur Gram Panchayats.
• Members of the Self Help Group from Muradgarhi.
• Ex Pradhans of Muradgarhi.
• Teachers of the Govt. Primary School,Muradgarhi, and
• Other opinion builders from the village.

The speakers explained the need for Jatropha plantation which arises from the fact that oil is imported from other countries to meet the demand for petroleum products in the country. This places heavy burden on the national economy. The oil extracted from Jatropha can provide an alternate to petro- diesel. The Jatropha can only be grown in rural areas and it should be cultivated only on the waste land/land not fit for normal cultivation. Hence it can generate lot of employment opportunities for the rural people.

Plans:

It has been planned to commence plantation of Jatropha from mid of Feb.2006. The length of the road connecting Muradgarhi and constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sarak Yojna is 2.5 km. Accordingly 2500 Jatropha saplings can be planted along PMGSY road. The Self Help Groups of Muradgarh village will preferably be involved in plantation , maintenance and harvesting of the Jatropha seeds.
